Preventing unauthorized use

Deterring and detecting unauthorized use of your IP and copyright infringement

When you publish information to the cloud – whether it’s to your own website, photo sharing websites or social media – your data becomes public and controlling its use can be difficult or impossible.

Data vulnerable to unauthorized use includes:

  • Pictures uploaded to websites
  • Pictures uploaded to social media services

Common problems with unauthorized use include:

Problem
  • Legal, but unintended and unknown usage

  • Unauthorized and illegal usage

Risks
  • Social media services may (depending on the service agreement) legally use your images in their advertising programs, or sell your images.

  • IP theft and copyright infringement, leading to lost income.

Usage of your images in undesirable situations, or for objectionable activities, jeopardizing your reputation or brand.

Scram’s recommended solutions
  • Watermark images to make them unsuitable for use in advertising or sale.

Downsample and reduce the quality of images to make them undesirable for advertising or sale, but still adequate for sharing online.

  • Embed hidden ownership and copyright information into images to prove ownership and detect copyright infringement.

Watermark images to reduce the possibility of theft.
