While you should conduct your own due diligence when choosing where to host your data, in general our view is that European countries offer the best privacy laws. In particular, a major problem data retention - if you store data in the cloud, and subsequently discontinue using that service, how can you be sure that the cloud provider has fully deleted your data? From 25th May 2018, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation protects citizens. Article 17, known as “Right to erasure (‘right to be forgotten’)”, provides rights to the data owners to request that their data be erased.
